I have to admit that my blog posts have been overtaken by my videos of late and it is hard to do both at times as the videos do take time to be produced.
At the end of July and the conditions still very much settled, hot and very sunny I decided to try further afield on the Loddon, with thoughts of fishing into darkness, a wonderful new area of the river, streamer weed, sunken snags and overhanging trees, the area looked perfect for a fish or two.
So without further ado one rod cast to an upstream bush with a slight depression under it and my other rod quite close in and under one of the overhanging trees, not particularly deep at round three and a half feet in depth, so I opted to slip a back lead on this particular rod.
A brilliant day, surrounded by Damselflies which had taken a liking to one of my rods, resting on it at regular occasions, it was during one of these intervals that my rod wrapped round and I was met with the reassuring thud and strong run of a barbus.
A lovely conditioned fighting fit fish (8.9) and a nice way to commence and conclude the fishing trip at the same time, as I received a phone call around 4:45 to tell me that someone had locked themselves out of the family home and as no one else was about, said person (dad) had proceeded to have an attack of low blood sugars, so off I rushed home, thankfully he was alright in the long run but it did give us quite a scare at the time and does make me wonder with myself being overweight, just how likely I might be to also develop diabetes in the long run too.
At least you caught.
ReplyDeleteSo when does the diet start?
True Dave,
DeleteI can remember the last time I lost weight, never felt better to be fair mate, was due to having a very bad stomach and spent much of the time eating only little amounts, usually dry toast and bananas only, with the odd breakfast shake here and there. Managed to get down to 11 stone. Looking back at it now it seems hard to believe I ever managed it and from reading Mr Herbert's blog he looks good for it, certainly admire what he has managed to do. I was originally 20 stone and have managed to get down to 18st 10 lb currently, but that is without any real direction or proper dieting regime.
A short, but very entertaining and interesting piece of writing, some fantastic photography also Mark... And of course not forgetting the beautiful Barbel you caught as well...
ReplyDeleteThe very last bit of writing about diabetes, maybe, maybe not, but to be fair mate, it can happen to anyone, i know one of my mates (one of the healthiest people i know) was diagnosed with it, so it really can happen to anyone, no matter there size or diet...
Thanks... :)
Thank you Matthew,
Deleteit was an enjoyable albeit short trip.
True diabetes can affect anyone, but having it run in the family and being overweight does not bode well really.
Hello Mark,
ReplyDeleteNice fish and nice photo and good luck with all your battles whatever form they may take.
Alan.
Cheers Alan,
DeleteI think I will try to commit to a healthier regime for one thing as I do not wish to become another heart or diabetes stat.
Good to see you're still bagging a few mate, I'm afraid I'm way behind in my reading as life's been manic hence I've missed a good few posts.
ReplyDeleteI'm on a bit of a mini health drive myself, my diet has always been pretty lousy to be honest but as time goes by I think I'm starting to feel the effects of that so it's high time I sorted myself out. We want to be fishing into old age don't we mate, sacrificing some of the tastier things in life has to be worth that
Hello rob!
DeleteCheers mate and yes I agree with you on the health front, problem is that I tend to go mad at a diet and then not stick at it because of that same reason, pretty stupid really and it's so easy to pack on the pounds but a real nightmare trying to shed them. I like the idea of us fishing in our later years and being a bit of a grumpy old angler too, trouble is I have the grumpiness already at times!
